This fall, we have two amazing senior women — Claire and Sharon.
Claire Hegge is a senior at Concordia Lutheran High School and she LOVES photography! Claire is highly motivated to pursue her art and is mad skilled at conceptual photography.
“I’m not exactly sure where the interest began, I just use to play around with a little pink digital camera that was gifted to me around the age of 12. When I quite literally used that camera to its death, I was then upgraded to my very first Nikon. It was the best gift I’ve ever received. I really enjoy shooting portraits in general and my main passion is conceptual portrait photography. My biggest inspiration is Kirsty Mitchell, and her amazing series Wonderland. My biggest dream is to be able to sell and display my art work across the country and maybe even the world. I would love to create a book full of my work and with things such as behind the scenes as well, similar to Kirsty’s Wonderland book. I’m beyond thrilled to be working with Shadowlands this semester! I hope to learn and grow so much as a photographer and person.”
Sharon Kim is a senior from Blackhawk Christian. She is interested in photography itself as well as editing and marketing. This is her first internship experience and she’s eager to learn more about her dream job and to experience what it’s like.
“I am the daughter of two missionaries, Edward and Hia Kim. I was born in Los Angeles, CA. When I was about two years old, I moved to Fort Wayne, IN. This when I learned my first two languages, Korean and English. Two years later, my father packed everything up and we all moved to Nez Ziona, a little bit north of Tel Aviv, Israel, and so by the time I turned five years old, I had fluently learned three languages. When I was little, my mom loved taking pictures of the pretty, exotic flowers they had in Israel. I was fascinated with the old little point and shoot camera that she had owned at that time. And living in Israel, a poor yet rich cultured country, I guess ever since then, I’ve been wanting to become a photographer who can bring help to those people’s poor, yet rich lives. But at the end of my third grade year, my family had gotten kicked out of Israel because of governmental issues, so we moved to Canada, where we’ve lived for two years, then afterwards we moved back to Fort Wayne, IN, where we have lived ever since.”

It’s finally starting to feel like spring outside! 🙂 So grab your kids and join us for a stress-free mini-session on Saturday, April 18 or Sunday, April 19. Limited sessions are available between 9:00am and 8:00pm.
Our spring mini-session special event for families & children is just $175 and includes:
Your new headshot can help me change a child’s life! THIS SATURDAY. Make a donation = get a new headshot! Join me this Saturday for a 10 minute mini-session at Lakeside Rose Garden (it’s going to be 61 degrees and sunny!). Appointments are available 9-11am. Spots are filling up! Claim your exact appointment time at https://shadowlandsphotography.wufoo.com/forms/celebration-of-smiles-day/
During this special one day event, when you give a minimum donation of $24 for Operation Smile, you will receive a gift of a 10 minute mini-session and a professional quality headshot as a 5″x7″ print.
100% of each donation will go to support the work of the Operation Smile (which provides free surgeries to repair cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities for children around the world). Because the medical and support staff of Operation Smile volunteer their services, it costs as little as $240 to perform a simple cleft lip surgery. To learn more about Operation Smile, visit https://www.youtube.com/user/CreateSmiles
For every 10 sessions that done on Celebration of Smiles Day, one precious child will receive the life-changing gift of surgery. The more you donate, the more children’s lives we will be able to change together!
Shealee (or Shea to those who know her well) is a senior at Homestead High School. She is fun, laid back and genuine (AND genuinely BEAUTIFUL – her blue eyes are like a gentle sea – SO much fun to capture).
Here are some sneak peeks of a few of my favorite images from her high school senior portrait session:

WHAT: Gain a stronger and more confident command of your digital camera by learning fundamental photography techniques including Camera Modes, Exposure, DOF, Composition, Equipment, Lighting, and more.
WHERE: This is a “moving” photography workshop – we will meet at different locations each week (in Fort Wayne, Indiana). Participants must be prepared (walking shoes, water bottle, etc.) and physically able to climb steps and walk across varying terrain.
WHO: Photography hobbyists ages 17+ (with skill levels ranging from beginner to intermediate) are welcome to attend.
NOTES: If you are a professional photographer (or are wanting to start your own photography business), this workshop is not designed for you – it is designed for people who do photography for fun and pleasure (NOT for income). Attendees must bring a digital camera to each day of the workshop. It is worth noting that if you do not yet own a DSLR camera but plan to purchase one, this workshop can help you learn more about the amazing possibilities and power that DSLRs give (over digital point-and-shoot cameras).
